We may have arrived 8 minutes late to the start of the National Christmas Tree Lighting (after driving in rush hour traffic to the Metro station straight from work on a Friday night, riding a crowded train into the District, and walking 10 blocks in a rain poncho to the event site).
Our tardiness may have caused the secret service agents to deny us entrance minutes before President Obama came on stage and lit the tree.
I may have been so disappointed that I cried in the pouring rain as I stood with tickets in hand.
Well, all of that's merely speculation; what did happen for sure is this.
On Saturday evening, Kyle, Eleanor, and I got all bundled up and walked to our local Del Ray tree lighting. There were sing along Christmas carols, neighborhood friends, complimentary cookies and hot cocoa, old St. Nic himself, and of course, the suspenseful countdown to our community tree lighting.
Although Del Ray wasn't our first choice for tree lighting (since James Taylor and Mariah Carey weren't in attendance), we made the most of a dismal situation and ended up having lots of fun.
That is what life is all about, right?
