Buckets of Rain
We make the best of never ending rainy days (make that weeks) with umbrella, raincoat, and galoshes adventures!
What to do?
What to do when it rains and rains on a non-school day?
Well, we started out the morning with raincoats and galoshes out in the yard, and the water table seemed quite appropriate, too. Then, we attended story time at the library and stayed there playing and reading for several hours. Back at the house we passed the time with Sneaky Snacky Squirrel.
I'd say we certainly made the best of the rainy mess we were dealt!

The rain was still ceaseless, and since the Cherry Blossom Kite Festival got cancelled due to inclement weather, we drove out to Dulles to explore the Udvar-Hazy National Air and Space Museum. On the trip out there, we got caught in snow flurries, which were a wonderful treat for Grammy, especially since it was her birthday!
While at the museum, we chased Eleanor ALL AROUND the building's perimeter and into every nook and cranny. During this wild goose toddler chase, we squeezed in a couple glances here and there of some interesting aircraft including planes of all colors and sizes and even a space shuttle.
Eleanor really enjoyed seeing the museum and spending the day there with Grammy and Papaw. In fact, I think she may now even have aspirations to be a pilot or astronaut when she grows up. Aviator Eleanor does have a nice ring to it!

Hearing, Seeing, Touching
When it rained and rained and rained all day, we opted for some sensory play! Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center's sensory room in Old Town was the perfect indoor refuge from the dark clouds and mud last weekend.
Eleanor was especially entertained by the tubes of light, bubble mat, pretend car (and steering wheel), and wall of gadgets. Since everything was toddler-friendly, Eleanor got to explore independently, which she LOVED.
Even the adults joined in the fun with Grammy on the water bed, Papaw on the vibrating chair, and Kyle on the swing. As for me, I liked seeing all the light designs!
I'm predicting we'll be back to visit Nannie J. again soon, rainy day or not!
