The Parkway Classic has got to be one of my favorite races of all time. It takes place locally every April with pleasant late winter/early spring weather. The course runs along one of the most beautiful places in the area, and is very close to the house.
I first ran this race last year, and when registration rolled around this year, I wasn't sold on training and forking up the cash to run it again. What finally convinced me to sign up was the material I was learning in my aging and traumatic brain injury (TBI) courses. Observing patients at a rehab facility and reading Being Mortal inspired me to run this ten-miler simply because I could. For me, the race was a celebration of the health and strength with which God has blessed me!
Kyle was out of town, so our neighbors graciously offered to watch Eleanor and Caleb for several hours beginning before 6 a.m. I was so grateful knowing they were in good hands. As for the actual race, it was perfect weather after lots of rain the day before. My goal was 8:30 minute miles or less, and my average was under that. Plus, I cut about three minutes off my time from last year. So, I'll claim a double win!
