Washed in Holy Water

Val got washed in the cold Icelandic waters today!  Her pastor here led the outdoor service, which was attended by Val's closest friends, and us, of course.  We all walked along the shore for some time to find the perfect dunking location free of seals and an overpowering undertow.

The pastor referenced the footprints poem where the walker along the beach questions God's presence when only one set of footprints is visible.  God responds that He was carrying the walker.  As Valorie recommitted her life and love to Jesus, this was such an appropriate reminder that God is always with us, caring for us and working all things for our good.

Afterwards, everyone headed back to Val's apartment to visit and eat yummy treats.  It was a very blessed day that I'm so grateful we could share in with Val.

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

More Fosses (Waterfalls)

The day started with delicious pancakes before our long day of driving east along the south coast of the island.  We got to see a herd of Icelandic horses pass right beside on a shaky bridge and spot breathtaking glaciers from a distance.

We picnicked for lunch, and the kids ran around in the grass before we ventured up the mountain to find a hidden waterfall.  Our second stop was Svartifoss (part of the Skaftefell National Park), which is one of Val's favorite places.  We were able to park closer than expected to the waterfall and cut the hike down some.  Here, we climbed the slippery rocks to get close to the water spewing over the dark, blocky rocks.  We ended up capturing some pretty cool pics!

Then we went to a nearby restaurant, where the chef recognized Val from soccer, even though we were hours away from Selfoss.  That's Iceland for you!  After our bellies were satisfied, we began the drive home and didn't arrive until after midnight Iceland time.
