A Flutter and Woof!

This Halloween Eleanor chose to dress up as a butterfly, and Caleb was a spotted puppy.  We went to Lee Street in Old Town, our favorite local trick-or-treating destination.  The air was chilly, and the trees lining the street were the most breathtaking shades of orange and gold.  Although we started early, before five, it didn't take long before the neighborhood was bustling with hundreds of families.

More than once, to my heart's delight, Eleanor exclaimed how much she loved trick-or-treating.  In fact, several candy passer-outers commented on her enthusiasm.  Her "Trick-or-treat!" was comparable to the welcome one receives at his own surprise party.  As for Caleb, he was fascinated by all of the unusual sights and sounds and was completely content being worn in the Bjorn carrier.

Before it got too dark, we went to Chipotle for half-price burritos and tasted a candy treat or two before heading back home.  Then, we stopped at a couple of our own neighbor friends' homes before calling it a night.  It was indeed a marvelous night that ended with chocolate and lollipop filled bellies and more than enough special memories to last us until next All Hallow's Eve!

We ran into Elephant Eloise and the rest of the S Family!

Chowing Down

Pumpkins

We created our jackolanterns just in time, on Halloween Day.  When asked what she wanted carved, Eleanor replied that she wanted a smiley face.  Then, she went on to specify that it should be a girl with big eyes, sharp teeth like an alligator, and a circle nose.  From there, I made a sketch, Kyle gutted most of the pulp and seeds, and Eleanor and I sawed out the masterpiece.  Since we had pumpkins to spare, Eleanor also got to use the face decorations to make some silly combinations.

Perks

I guess being home sick with a fever does have its perks!  Grocery store cruisin' with good ol' hand, foot, and mouth disease!

The Display

Here is the bulletin board outside of Caleb's classroom at school.  Isn't it cute?

Fall Festival

Cookie Monster on the Cheek
We made it to the fall festival at church. This year Eleanor was really into the games and activities and playing with Emilio. Eleanor got her face painted, picked duckies out of the pond, knocked over cans, petted farm animals, took silly pictures in the photo booth, and ate plenty of sweets.  All of this fun was after Sunday school (during the middle service) and her first visit to children's church (at the late service). Caleb was at the nursery during both service times, I was volunteering in Eleanor's Sunday school class, Kyle was helping pack food bags for a mission, and then Kyle and I attended the late service together.  So, needless to say, it was a long day at church, but a good one.

We spent this Friday at the zoo among the gorgeous fall leaves and good friends.  It was four hours very well spent!
